Bangkok Living

Who can tell me what this is?? For the right guess, I'll have a Thai present in the mail to you! This is Khun New, pronounced... Coon Neway... she's our maibon, she cleans, cooks and does laundry! We love her!!:)

These are buddhas that were in a cell phone shop. Every house, shop or area has several buddhas or a spirit house. It's keeps away the bad spirits and yes, you always see bottles of water nearby... Bubbha gets thirsty!

Bangkok Living!!

Meet my lil gecko... tell me it doesn't freak you out, that my lil friend has beady eyes! I'm still in denial that they live in the house, but as long as they stay out sight, then I can stay in denial!

Bangkok without traffic...Ronald Mc Donald doing the Wai!

I don't care what you say... That's NOT Chicken!!!!

Ahhhh..

Starbucks is Pronounced Starbucks in Thai! :) Nice to know that some things stay the same.

It's not a fishhead!

Wow!!! What a difference a few months make!!

My last post was in April and WOW!!! Life has changed for the Onofre family. We were originally scheduled to leave San Antonio, Texas on May 23rd, however because of political unrest here in Bangkok, we didn't depart San Antonio until June 22nd.
For those of you who know me, you know that I was going out of my mind without having a plan as to what we were to be doing. However, NOW that I look back at it, it was all for the best. There were lifetime memories that we were able to be apart of such as ...
Watching our youngest baby graduate from Elementary school (AND she was able to eat cake at her graduation ceremony!), Watch our Valdictiorian Nephew graduate from High School, and watch our "Star in the Making" Elia IN A BOX graduate. So while I was going crazy in my head, My heart was very full being able to be apart of those celebrations. :)

We finally received our passports (hmmm.. after many, many weeks of waiting) and we were given the green light to proceed to Bangkok. Well, being the cocky lil thang that I am... I was doing a happy dance and walking down a flight of stairs all at the same time and welll....... BOOM!!! I fell... not to worry though, I jumped right back up and we were off to have our last dinner with the Kays and the Wilson's! Margaritas were involved, so no time for crying over a fall. Right?!
Well, we went through the motions of saying good bye, see ya laters and so on, and it wasn't until we were about 18 hours into our 32 hour journey that I got up to go to the Ladies Room, that I realized HOW FREAKING BAD MY KNEE HURT!!! So, I get to the Restroom and and WOW..it's a HUGE bruise...again, just a bump... I'm sure that it will get better! :) RIGHT?!
We finally arrived into Bangkok, the land of smiles after traveling for 32 hours, so to say that we were tired, well, that was an understatement! I mean come on... 32 hours... my dad and Cheryl had already slept twice (2 nights) before my head finally hit a pillow!! Yes, we were tired!

We in processed the Embassy on day 1 and the adrenaline was in full gear, so much so, that I wore high heels that day! :) It was 210 degrees with a humidity of 100% and with my swollen feet and all ... I was in cute shoes!! :) However, I began to realize that the knee was getting no better...
So to fast forward a lil bit... I ended up in Baumrungrad International Hospital within a month of arriving to The Land of Smiles! I had knee surgery and I'm currently almost 5 weeks post op and I'm hoping that very soon I'll be the tourist that I want to be.
Not all has been bad though! The week that I was scheduled for surgery I was notified that I had indeed been selected for the Asst CLO position at the Embassy!!! :) SO excited! So I had surgery on Friday and I reported to work on Wed.! Yes, crazy I know... but what's a girl to do when she wants to shop?!

So, yes we are in Bangkok... eating fishheads!!

Chris painting the front room from our "Fabulous Mistake" paint, to a beautiful wheat toast!! :) I LOVE IT!!
Everyman needs a new tool while he's packing up all his tools, RIGHT?! He said the he NEEDED it,, I think that after being married to me for 20 years, he now understands the differences between NEED and want!

Gorgeous flowers going into the flower beds... I hope whoever rents our home that they love them too!

Stop messing about and get to planting dude!! :)

Sale this, keep that, store that... :)

Yes, these are the words that are to be heard in the Onofre house these days. There were days that when I checked the mail and received magazines I just couldn't wait for the evening to have a bubble bath with a glass of wine and read at leisure.. AHHH!!! Oh Hell NO! Now it's a stress to think that I have to read them and fast cause I gotta get rid of them.. But I'm having an awful time throwing away any media... :) I want to save it, cause in another year I just want to read the article that tells me how to make a catepillars out of an egg carton, or I'll need to reread the article how "How Men really Like it in Bed"! Or the recipe for Roasted Tomato Soup... how do I decide what magazines to take or not.... oh the stress!!!

Moving is actually good therapy, because it makes me realize that while I feel emotionally attached to this house, (First owned home, mom was alive while I lived here, Chris' dad spent lots of time here, family has gathered here, Michaela started High school here, 1st homecoming dance, Beautiful deck and patio all hand built by Chris, Miranda went all the way from 1st to 5th in the same school here, friends who are very dear live here, WE planted trees here)
it's all mortar and brick. That's it!! Bricks on a plot of dirt and grass.... it's what is in our hearts that makes it a home. It's been a wonderful home and I'll forever be grateful for the feeling of owning our own home and for my children to know what it was like to live in a 'real house'! Not something I ever had while growing up,,, I lived in apartments and a few trailors.
Then Chris and I married, we lived in apartments and a few trailors, then military base housing.. so this was truly a LOVED moment of living in this house. The building made of mortar and bricks! :)

But today, it's all about whittling our belongings down to 3ooo pounds of things that will make our life in Bangkok feel like home! First things first.. My Stamp Room!! Yeah Baby,, don't even think for a minute that I'm leaving behind one lil precious stamp or ink pad. And every stamper NEEDS lots of paper.. and then moments when I need to do a 3D project.. so every jar, wooden clipboard, letter, or anything that had an idea behind it is hopping that plane too!! Oh okay, I'll leave behind the glass jars.. cause those are recyclable and surely I can collect glass jars there too, right?! I better call the Embassy to verify! :)

We are getting close. We have rehomed the 3 big dogs; Sara, our 12 year old Black Labrador went to live with Cousin Juan and Machell and their 3 children, Lizzy, our 4 year old terrier (yeah right !!) was adopted by a Navy recruiter and his family and Bailey, our 3 year old lab/calahoula was adopted by one of my daycare familes. So that leaves Allie Mae and Sophie LaRue the maltipoos, and they are going with us!! Rehoming our other family members was beyond hard. But we were fortunate that they all have homes that are going to love and adore them, and we couldn't ask for anything more! :) Prayers were answered!!

Packers and Movers have been scheduled so yeah, it's a reality.. in 2 months time, we will be in Bangkok.... eating fish heads!!

A New Chapter...

I'm starting this blog so that we can share our experiences leading up to moving to Thailand
and once we get there.

We are a military family and our previous stations have been RAF Lakenheath,UK 1997-2005, Lackland AFB (San Antonio) 2005-2010 and now we are on our way to Bangkok Thailand!!

We have truly enjoyed our assignment here in San Antonio as it put us closer to our families in Dallas, Texas and we have made many more life long friends! Now everyone will have an open invitation to come and visit us in Thailand. :)
